about

An experiment in sound design and acoustic noise. This track was inspired by and written for Tamiko Rast's painting entitled, "St. James Park," from her series "Veritable San Jose."

Field recordings are from the Paris Metro and the park outside Notre Dame and the music box noise is also from a street vendor in the Latin Quarter of Paris.

Composer and percussionist Beth Wisendanger noted while listening to the rough mix, that "...the opening notes sound like breathy gasps of air." Cellista's addition of filed recordings furthers that mental imagery. The piece conveys wind fluttering through trees in the morning dawn. Life resumes after the hangings. And we go on our way even after observing the horrific vulgarities of life.

The piece is for those who travel in their minds here in the Bay. The Paris sounds can accompany whatever image they have of France while they are here feeling trapped.

We pass by painful truths of reality in our daily lives. These truths takes our breath away, choking us. But we breathe our shallow breaths and walk forward between scenes. We are witnesses. Vessels in perpetual motion. Just trying to breathe. Losing sense of time.
